Granadas de Elche S.L.U. is a company which produces pomegranates of the Mollar Elche variety. Pomegranates have been cultivated on the land around Elche for over 1000 years, cultivation techniques having been passed from one generation to the next.

 

The Mollar Elche pomegranate is one of the most highly valued in the world, thanks to its extraordinary flavour and high antioxidant, vitamin and mineral content.

 

Our Mollar Elche pomegranates are cultivated using traditional methods, respecting the natural environment and complying with the strict traceability guidelines as set out by the European Union.

 

We handpick the best Mollar Elche pomegranates from our own crops, at the optimal point in the ripening process, from which to obtain our Granavida pomegranate juice.

 

The latest extraction and packaging techniques are used in the production of Granavida in order to provide the best 100% natural pomegranate juice possible.

 

Granavida is a 100% natural pomegranate juice, NOT MADE FROM CONCENTRATES, which is produced via direct extraction and pasteurisation at a low temperature. The juice production process is carried out immediately after the fruit is picked from the tree.

 

Granavida only contains Mollar Elche pomegranates and DOES NOT CONTAIN ARTIFICIAL COLOURS, PRESERVATIVES, ADDED SUGAR or any other ADDED SUBSTANCES and is pasteurised at a low temperature.

 

Following instructions and studies carried out on the process in several universities, we pack the juice in 200ml glass bottles. There are numerous studies which advise this type of packaging for pomegranate juice, so that the maximum amount of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins are preserved.

 

Granavida is the only 100% natural pomegranate juice NOT derived from concentrates to exist in the whole of the European Union. As well as being the only one whereby the production of the Mollar Elche pomegranate, as well as the extraction and packaging processes, are carried out entirely within the borders of the European Union.

 

GRANAVIDA – A POMEGRANATE JUICE WITH ALL THE GUARANTEES OF QUALITY

 

The quality of our products has been proven by studies carried out by independent experts.

 

Researchers from the food and agriculture technology department at Miguel Hernandez University (UMH), directed by Professor Carbonell, have analysed various commercial pomegranate juices, labelled “100% concentrate” or “double strength”, which currently exist on the market in the European Union and, comparing them with GRANAVIDA, they have obtained the following results:

 

The antioxidant content in GRANAVIDA pomegranate juice is much higher when compared to other pomegranate juices labelled “100% concentrate” or “double strength”.

 

Undoubtedly, the analysis of GRANAVIDA has proven that it is the best of the commercial pomegranate juices which we have found on the European market to date.

 

GRANAVIDA pomegranate juice is the best available commercial pomegranate juice.

 

The grading obtained by GRANAVIDA is double that of the rest of the commercial pomegranate juices analysed.

 

The tests carried out on GRANAVIDA show that it is a completely natural pomegranate juice, free from added substances.

 

Its astringent nature is directly related to the antioxidant activity of pomegranate juice. It is highly important to inform the consumer that a juice which is not at all astringent is a pomegranate juice with a low antioxidant potential. On the other hand, an astringent juice which causes your mouth to become dry is a juice with maximum antioxidant potential.

 

The processing method is highly important as far as the sensory and functional quality of pomegrante juice is concerned. So that this juice obtains the maximum antioxidant and functional potential, it is necessary for the juice to be extracted in contact with the skin of the pomegranate. Numerous studies have proven that the skin of the pomegranate has a higher antioxidant activity than the seeds.

Discussion
The Antioxidant Power determines the activity of antioxidants and radical scavengers. The higher the capacity of a test substance to neutralize free radicals is and the higher the reaction velocity is, the higher is the AP. The AP values are benchmarked against ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and expressed in Antioxidative Units
(AU).
In comparison to fresh pomegranate fruit the granaVida juice showed higher antioxidative activity, both in terms of capacity and reactivity. In this study only one sample of granaVida juice has been analysed. Thus, differences between different batches, different storing conditions or different proceedings can not be evaluated.

The Antioxidative Power (AP)


The new antioxidative power (AP) method offers the determination of the all over antioxidative power of active ingredients, i.e. plant extracts, vitamins etc., by following the reducing activity against a stable test radical – diphenyl-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) with ESR spectroscopy. The AP method basically utilizes the well known DPPH method with a major difference that both the antioxidative capacity and the antioxidative activity are used to characterize the antioxidant under discussion. For this purpose different concentrations of the active ingredients are investigated by ESR spectroscopy and the decrease of the test radical spins is tracked accordingly for each set. With this innovative technique important kinetic information is additionally obtained which is completely neglected by most of the other test systems. Therefore, both the reaction time and the reduction potential of the antioxidants contribute to the calculation of the AP.

The resulting AP is expressed in antioxidative units (AU), where 1 AU corresponds to the activity of a 1 ppm solution of pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid) as a benchmark. his method allows a rapid and general applicable technique for the measurement of the AP of very different classes of substances.

The AP method allows:
(1) to perform a standardized analytical method with benchmarked results.
(2) to obtain a meaningful comparison of active ingredients regarding their capability to scavenge free radicals and/or to terminate radical chain reactions.


(3) to control the variation within or between products, and to provide quality standards that are benchmarked for quality control and efficacy claims.


The AP method allows a functional Quality Control during the whole production process. It helps to choose the raw materials with the highest antioxidant activity, it is essential for the quality control during long term stabilities and stockage conditions and important for the creation of new products with high antioxidant activity.
